Hayden Jolley, an 11 year old 6th grader and the son of Volunteer Fire Fighter Michael and Shannon Culberth Jolley has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, high cholesterol and Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.
After numerous hospital and doctor visits he was fitted with an insulin pump. He is what is considered a very brittle diabetic. Even with the pump his diabetes is extremely hard to control.
On a recent visit to Duke University Medical Center in Raleigh, NC the doctors recommended Hayden for the Service Dog Program. These are specially trained service dogs that can sense low and high blood sugar before humans can. This could prevent a diabetic coma.
Unfortunately this service is available to only the most severe cases and is not covered by insurance. The cost is around $6,000 which includes the dog, three weeks training, and hotel accommodations in Missouri. All donations would be greatly appreciated by the family to help in this time of need. Hayden has been accepted into the program for the February, 2008 class. Donations may be made out to the Heaven Scent Paws and mailed to 108 Hwy PP, St. Elizabeth, MO 65075.
IMPORTANT: Please include Hayden’s name and HSP#230208321 in the memo portion of the check to insure the funds are properly credited to Hayden’s account.
