My name is April and I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 18 and for the most part have done pretty good with it. I'm a mother of 2 amazing boys and it was during both of my pregnancies that my diabetes decided to go crazy. Lows and lows and I just couldn't feel them coming on until they were so low and I would be unconscious. My husband and I said something had to be done.
Then I saw a program on TV called D-Life and the Reinkemeyers were guests on the show. They were talking about their company Heaven Scent Paws. We watched the program and I thought that it sounded pretty amazing. I had no clue that a dog could detect a low blood sugar or even a high but it was definitely something I needed to look into.
A good friend of mine heard about it as well and she would ask me everyday if I called HSP and I would just push it aside. Well unfortunately I had a severe low with a BG of 9 and my son having to contact 911. I made it through that and then I immediately called HSP. I was approved for the July 07 class right away.
I was so excited to go because I just needed something to help me feel at ease when I was at home alone or even driving a car with my kids. I was given a dog that did not work for me for several reasons but there was no way I was going to give up. So Michele offered me Buddy(Sheltie) and the rest is history.
We had a instant bond and one that will never quit. He is truly amazing (I was not a dog person) and I don't know what I would do without him. Buddy started alerting right away for me and he continues to do so. You still have to work with them every day or sure. The process isn't easy, but worth every penny.
Thank you Heaven Scent Paws and Michele for all you have done. My family and I are very grateful to have found your company.
Sincerely,
June 2008
